ONE Championship has opted to postpone all of its upcoming shows through May due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
ope赞助ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong on Monday.
“All May events for ONE Championship will be postponed until further notice due to the recent COVID-19 developments (border closings and lockdowns) across most countries in Asia,” Sityodtong wrote on Facebook.
ope赞助“Our highest priority remains the safety and health of our athletes, officials, staff, fans, and the public during these challenging times. My team and I are working around the clock on multiple options to bring back our events as soon as safely possible. Stay tuned for news!”
ope赞助ONE had already made numerous changes to its schedule because of the developing situation with the COVID-19 outbreak.
Initially, the promotion had hoped to hold several cards behind closed doors without fans in attendance but travel restrictions nixed those plans. ONE then decided to cancel all of its shows through April with hopes of returning in May.
Now those shows have also been postponed including ONE’s upcoming “Infinity” card that was supposed to feature several title fights, including the return of former UFC champion Demetrious Johnson. That card on May 29 was supposed to feature several title fights including Johnson’s bid to win the flyweight championship in his fight against Adriano Moraes.
Now it appears Johnson will have to wait until June or beyond to get back in action following the news that ONE Championship is going on hiatus through May.
The next card currently scheduled for ONE Championship comes on June 5 with a show in Jakarta, Indonesia.
